Installing a TBI conversion from M.A. Inc.

So I got this set up from M. A. Inc., it uses a Chevy 454 TBI system for my AMC 401. Also, let me say this is a prototype system that I am helping M. A. Inc. develop for public sale.

First off, you will need an adapter plate to mate the TBI to your intake, I have an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, so I purchased a Trans Dapt plate, part number 2203 (which is a forward mount) you can get them in rear mount also, but I chose forward so it would be a better setup for my throttle cable. I got this from Car Shop for around $40. A picture of what you get is below, all gaskets and mounting bolts.

Here is my Chevy 454 TBI unit. I purchased this used but M.A. Inc also has a kit with this included.

There are two types of injectors on these, here you can see the tops of mine are a orange/red color, these are the 90lb injectors, if you have a different color, those are 80lb injectors. This picture below is looking at the unit from the front.

Here you can see the fuel line hook ups. They in the back and you can see I have an adapter on the left, which is the "IN" line, I needed this adapter to get my -8 AN fuel line to hook up. That TBI fitting is a 16mm x 1.5 O-ring which I have adapted to -6 AN fitting. The "RETURN" line is 14mm x 1.5 O-ring size.

Here is the unit mounted up on my intake manifold.

In these pictures you can see my fuel line hook ups in the rear of the TBI unit.

For the fuel IN side I have a 16mm x 1.5 O-ring to -6 AN adapter fitting then a 45 degree female -6 AN to female -6 AN fitting then a -6 AN to -8 AN adapter fitting which then connects to my -8 AN fuel line. The RETURN line starts with a 14mm x 1.5 O-ring to -6 AN adapter fitting then I have a 45 degree -6 AN fitting which is the start of my -6 AN fuel return line.

Here is what I received from M. A. Inc.

This is an ECU with a chip that has been reprogrammed to run a 401 with the complete wire harness which includes an O2 sensor, the fuel pump and ECU relays, check engine light and MAP sensor. This unit is a prototype unit so when it goes into production every thing will be new and have more professional markings, but everything was labeled and it is pretty much plug and play.

One thing that came to light is that the IAC (Idle Air Control) connector on the wire harness is different from a 350 to a 454. So I purchased a new connector at Kragen Auto Parts, Part Number PS77171 for $28.99.
