Installing Cab Roof Lights

I bought the truck with no cab roof lights, just the way it came.  But instead of having the stealership do it, I bought some lights off ebay for it, $45 or something for all five of them.  I also picked up some small LED's for the running boards at a Agri Store near by for $5 a pop.

Ok, first off you want to remove the headliner completely.  This is fairly easy on this truck.  Just unscrew the visors, center light, coat hangers and then pop out the 4 plastic holders.  And don't worry about bending it, I almost folded mine in half and it did nothing to it.  Once it is flat the creases go away.

Now that the headliner is out, go to the top of the roof and start your measurements.  You want to measure up from the window molding, top of it, 5.5".  You also want to find your center.  One light will go at the center mark.  From that center mark, measure out in both directions 8 inches.  Keep that mark 5 and half inches from the top of window molding and you will have two other light placements.  Now for the last two, measure 13 inches from those last two lights.  These marks are the center of the lights.  I drilled a 1/4" hole for the wires and two smaller holes for the mounting screws.  I got some stainless steel sheet metal screws for this and also put some RTV on the holes before putting the lights on.  Just to help keep water out.  For the wiring, I ran the grounds to a hole in the roof brace with a sheet metal screw and the power I ran down the drivers side pillar to the headlight switch.

Here is a picture showing you the measurements.

I didn't take any pictures of the install, since it's pretty straight forward.  Just keep the lights in line with the windshield, it has a slight curve to it, so the outer two lights should be square with the windshield molding, and not the truck itself.

Now for the running lights.  I mounted three of them on each side, just drilled into my plastic running boards and used some machine screws with nylon lock nuts on the back side to keep them attached.  As for the wiring, I ran all the grounds together and towards the front on the frame is a grounding point, attached them there.  I also ran all the power wires together, since they are LED's, and draw low power, then found the parking light wire at the connection bundle on the drivers side near the transfer case.  You can find it with a voltmeter.  Picture to follow.

There you have it.  Pretty basic and all in all I have about 100 bucks into this, to included all the lights, wire, connectors and what not.

Here is a front shot of the cab roof lights. Another shot of the cab roof lights.
A shot of the drivers side running lights that I mounted to the stock Ford running boards. The passenger side running lights.  They are spaced evenly on the running board.  Not sure if I like this or not, it seems as though there is too much space at the front and back of it.  I'll give it some time to see if I like it.
Here it is finished and in the same position as the photo to the right. Here are the running lights at night time.

Here it is with the headlights and fog lights on.
