Dana 60 High Steering
This is my high steering setup on my front Dana 60. For this setup I am running the tie rod behind the front axle. I am doing this to avoid the pitman arm and drag link, since I have moved my front axle forward several inches.
First thing is to get all the parts that I will need.
For the High Steering Arms I contacted Tim Shaker at Shakerbuilt. I got one single arm and one double arm.
Here is what you get with the single arm from Tim for $100.
Here is the double arm that I also got from him. He does not have it listed on his website, but all you have to do ask him for it. I believe it was $110, also came with the studs and nuts.
In this picture I have a 1" spacer, that I had made at work. After fitting the arms I found out that I couldn't mount up my brake calipers. So I had to raise them 1". This also helped in clearing my leaf springs.
Next was the tubing. I ordered a stick from my local Machine Shop, 22 feet of 1026 1.5" OD with 1" ID DOM Tubing for $85. You don't need that much obviously but it was cheaper for me to order that much through him, and I am sure I can find something to use the rest of it on.
1026 1.5" OD 1" ID DOM Tubing
For my set up I am going to use normal tie rod ends. So now I needed the threaded inserts. Some people tap the tubing, if you go this route you will need a different ID (inner diameter) on the tubing. This size tubing is for the inserts.
1.5"OD X 1.0" ID 1026 DOM Tubing for the threaded inserts
1.25"OD X .219 walled DOM Tubing for threading the tubing and screwing in the tie rod ends
The threaded inserts I got from Poison Spyder, for $12.25 a piece. I got the 7/8 18 thread so I could use 3/4 & 1 ton size tie rod ends. They sell several different sizes.
Now for the hard part. Getting all the tie rod ends that I needed.
Drag Link
Lets clear up some nomenclature. The Drag Link is what goes from the Pitman Arm to the passenger side knuckle. The Tie Rod is what connects between both knuckles.
For this I used some 3/4 ton 1985 Chevy Blazer High Misalignment Tie Rod ends. These tie rod ends have 7/8 - 18 thread and BIG taper.

Tie Rod
This goes between the knuckles, from one side to the other.
This took some research and several different orders to get right.
Drivers Side is from a 1985 Chevy Blazer.

The left tie rod end looks like it has a lot of threads showing, but it does go into the sleeve just as far as it sticks out, if not more.
